The Minton tile ornament was inspired by design elements of the Minton tile ceiling at Bethesda Terrace Arcade. The Arcade is a richly decorated component of Bethesda Terrace (mid-Park at 72nd Street), which was restored in 2007 by the Central Park Conservancy. Originally completed in 1869 as part of the Bethesda Terrace, the Arcade’s Minton tile ceiling is made up of almost 16,000 elaborately patterned encaustic tiles handmade by England’s renowned Minton and Company. The ornament is made of etched brass and plated with 24 karat gold. Each ornament is packaged in a gift box and includes an insert with historical information about the tiles.
